When I started writing my first poems no one believed that this would lead to something serious.

My father wanted me to become a painter, my sister wanted me to become an accountant and told me that if I were to devote myself to poetry I would die from hunger… My closest friends also didn’t have much faith in me and told me pretty much the same thing.

As you could imagine, all these opinions affected me in a big way, so I gave up writing completely by the time I was 17 and went to study business in college. It wasn’t until  some years later when I started to write secretly again, only this time I didn’t show any of my poems to anyone… except to mother, who through the years always believed and supported me.  

During the age of 17 and until I turned 24 I maintained my writing-life complete secret.
When I turned 26, I decided to share all that I had written more broadly and it was an entirely different story. It was about that time that my first books got published and some of my poems appeared in various magazines.

It was then that the great support among my family & friends occurred. For example, my father and my sister who had always been my great critics suddenly turned around and supported me and encouraged me to get published and to pursue my writing in more serious manner. My friends too, who had previously criticized me were very impressed and also encouraged me to write more. It was about that time and due to this encouragement that I gathered the faith to go ahead and pursue my writing.
